Turning Leaves and Turning Points: Finding Support and Renewal at Mid-Semester
Cooler mornings. Sunlight dancing on golden leaves. Almost-but-not-quite sweater weather. Autumn’s arrival brings changes, inviting both slowing down and gathering energy. As we move into this academic tradition of fall break, we might consider the possibilities present in this brief pause. I, for one, am grateful for a chance to catch my breath and get motivated before the second half of the term begins.
Much as nature offers rhythms of rest and renewal, so does the academic calendar. Amid these rhythms, we sometimes need a steadying presence. The WFU Ombuds Office is here for that, a kind of evergreen tree holding its color while everything else changes. Ombuds support is confidential, impartial, and available to all faculty and staff. So, whether you are navigating changes, seeking clarity on a policy, or simply need a confidential sounding board, I hope you will reach out.
Staying energized and motivated doesn’t have to mean pushing through alone. The start of the second half of the semester is a time for recommitment, for leaning into community, and for remembering that the University ombuds stands ready to journey with you. As leaves turn and days shorten, I hope you find steady roots and quiet strength for the road ahead.
